Medicaid Home Waiver Program Expanded

Gov. Barbour recently announced the expansion of Mississippi’s Medicaid Home waiver program.  This program allows seniors that are unable to live totally independently, but who can live without round the clock skilled care, to remain in their homes through some care provider subsidies provided by Medicaid.  This is good news for many of our state’s seniors.  The last time that I checked on this waiver program for one of our clients, the waiting list being drawn from dated back to 2008.  The required clients like mine who could live at home with a little help to enter into a nursing home prematurely, and at a cost to Medicaid of about $6,000 per month.  The waiver program allows enough assistance for many clients to remain at home, at a cost to Medicaid of a little less than $1,000 per month. read more
